Richard Melman, director of the U.K's Artsworld, has left the channel to join The History Channel U.K. Melman, who begins at The History Channel next month, replaces Sarah Allan, who left History at the end of April. Artsworld is currently looking for a replacement.
Patrick Watson has joined Alliance Atlantis-owned AAC FACT as creative consultant. Watson will work with the AAC FACT production team in Toronto, Canada, to develop programming for domestic and international broadcasters. Watson previously developed current affairs programming for Canadian pubcaster the CBC, including Close-Up Inquiry and This Hour Has Seven Days.>
Michael Castro has been named VP of production services for A&E Television Networks. Castro will be responsible for in-house production for A&E Network, The History Channel, The Biography Channel and History International. Castro joined AETN in 1999 and was previously director of production services.
Harold Valentine has been appointed deputy manager of audio-visual at the National Centre of Cinematography (CNC) in Paris, France. He was formerly a technical advisor with the cabinet of the foreign minister.
Broadcast journalist Daljit Dhaliwal will host the new PBS doc series Wide Angle alongside former U.S. secretary of state spokesman James P. Rubin. Dhaliwal is also set to join CNN International in August as anchor of the World News program and host of World Report. Based in Atlanta, Dhaliwal will also co-anchor some new programs for CNN, which will debut in the fall. Dahliwal previously anchored ITN's World News for Public Television in Britain that was seen in the U.S. on PBS.
Sylvia Sweeney has been appointed executive producer of the NFB's Ontario Production Centre. Sweeney was previously president of independent company Elitha Peterson Productions. Sweeney's first experience with the NFB was as independent executive producer, producer and director of In the Key of Oscar, a Gemini Award-winning 1992 documentary about pianist Oscar Peterson that was coproduced with the Board's Ontario studio.
Rob Sorcher has been named senior VP of programming and production for American Movie Classics. Sorcher was previously executive VP and general manager of USA Network.
David Nevins, VP of programming for Fox, is leaving the network. Nevins joined the company three years ago and was responsible for current as well as in-development programming. No replacement for Nevins has been named. Meanwhile, Tony Vinciquerra has been appointed president of the Fox Television Network, effective January 2003. He was previously executive VP and COO of Hearst-Argyle TV Stations.
At Bravo Networks in New York: Sean Redlitz has been named director, interactive media for Bravo and the Independent Film Channel. Kathleen Williams, currently site manager of A&E Television Networks, joins Bravo as content manager, while David Bartin joins IFC Interactive Media as a producer.
Anne Murphy has been appointed VP, strategic marketing, affiliate sales and marketing for Discovery Networks in Bethesda, U.S. At Discovery Kids in New York, Alexis Brunner was named director of on-air promotion.
