Cactus Three is a small but prolific prodco based out of New York. Work from last year alone includes Darkon, a feature about fantasy live-action role playing; Office Tigers, about outsourcing in India (directed by Liz Mermin, Beauty Academy of Kabul); and loudQUIETloud, an unparalleled look at The Pixies as they prepare for their reunion tour. The latter film received high praise from our readers, with one viewer comparing it to an updated Grey Gardens. "It made for riveting viewing. The structure of the documentary was brilliant. The band's mundane day-to-day lives juxtaposed with their reaction to their comeback tour really took you beyond the veil of fame and adoration and showed you the real lives behind it in a new and fascinating way."
The Cactus Three secret? "We maintain ongoing close personal contact with our broadcast, distribution and financing partners," observes co-founder Krysanne Katsoolis, "keeping in touch with the always changing trends in commissioning and distribution models. All our contacts come through long personal relationships or referrals... Although we are pitched many projects, we carefully select only projects that all three partners are truly passionate about."
