Dangerous Films is a company you're likely to hear much more about in the coming years. It was formed in 2003 by a trio of BBC alums who should be familiar to most: Richard Dale, Peter Parnham and Tim Goodchild. During their tenure at the Beeb, they had a hand in such hits as The Human Body, Walking With Cavemen and What the Romans Did for Us.
The company really made its first splash in 2004 with D-Day 6.6.1944, a two-hour retelling of the events surrounding the Normandy landings that relied heavily on recreations and dramatic elements. Since then it's been strength to strength, right up to last year's 9/11: The Twin Towers (produced in association with Blakeway Productions), which several readers pegged as one of their favorite films of the past year - a skilful and thoughtful telling of the events of that second day of infamy in American history. One observer noted: "Finally, a drama-doc that really works."
Pay close attention to Dangerous Films in the coming months for what are sure to be more notable tales. Notes Dangerous director of creative content Richard Dale: "Our projects tend to cover major landmark events. We excel in bringing emotional complexity to a mainstream audience. Our programs do this without reducing content to simplistic sound bites and headline-grabbing graphics."
