Microsoft's launch of on-demand movies and TV delivered through the Xbox 360 was met with glitches and complaints. Available only in the US, the service allowed Xbox owners to purchase standard and HD content through the Xbox Live Marketplace online store.

Earlier in May, Microsoft tested the server's ability by offering a free download of HD clips from a doc on the making of Gears of War, a popular action game. But November 22 - the console's first anniversary and the day that purchasing began - was fraught with problems. Xbox users didn't receive the films they bought, and downloading was excruciatingly slow. Since this was the first instance of a game console offering this kind of service, Microsoft was not prepared for the intense demand it was met with on its launch. The HD content's large size was also cited as one of the causes for long wait times. Microsoft has been working to fix the problems and said it will offer refunds.
