Docs get spun on the Web
by: Jan 1, 2007 Print

Thanks to Web services megacompany AOL, getting distribution for your film may have just gotten easier. The company recently launched a website dedicated to docs, both those previously released or prior to theatrical release. Called True Stories, the website (http://movies.aol.com/truestories) has docs available to stream free on-demand (with ads) or as pay-per-download to own.

Filmmakers will benefit from more than True Stories' appeal as a platform for new docs on the hunt for distribution - the site also allows directors to post personal blogs about their work, as well as bonus footage and interviews in some cases. The sense of community on the site is further fostered by allowing viewers to exchange thoughts on the films, and find out how to get involved.
