BRITDOC 2006
Each summer is ripe with tried-and-true doc events, but now there's another to consider: BRITDOC 2006, the UK's first international feature doc festival. Taking place in Keble College, Oxford from July 26 to 28, the fest isn't exclusive to Brits - it will showcase international features as well. Producers, distributors and those with funding money burning a hole through their pocket will descend on what is to become an annual event. There'll be world premieres and screenings, a pitching forum (in association with IDFA), and informal networking opportunities. Morgan Spurlock will also be on hand to answer questions on how to market features. The BRITDOC 2006 'Would Like to Meet' events will connect filmmakers and scientists in order to establish future collaborations.

Heartland Film Festival
Now in its 15th year, this annual Indianapolis-based event is offering something that should perk the ears of many a producer: a US$25,000 cash prize for Best Doc Feature. The fest is looking for films that "unlock the potential of the human spirit." New Age lingo aside, indie features, shorts, and student films will be screened October 19 to 27.
