Christian Bauer, Tangram's CEO, has been making films since 1980. They range from highly personal feature docs like the award-winning Missing Allen, a film about his search for a disappeared friend and colleague completed in 2001, to Cowgirls, a documentary "chick flick" about cowgirl boot camp completed in 2005, to Metropolis - The Power of Cities, a big-budget television series using cgi, completed in 2003.
Where do such diverse ideas come from? "Sometimes lightning strikes," says Bauer, "but most of the time it's careful observation of our markets and continuous talks with our filmmakers." Bauer also stays in close contact with broadcasters. "We shape the subject and the form according to their programming needs."
Subjects for upcoming projects include the Cold War, ancient cultures, art theft and forgery. Says Bauer: "Our new challenge is to take German stories - and we don't mean WWII and Nazis - to the international scene."
Recent titles: The Ritchie Boys, Missing Allen
