Discovery Networks International has appointed John F. Furth senior VP, international strategic planning. Furth joins Discovery from his previous post as chief strategist for Sony's Institute of Strategy.

David McKillop has been promoted to VP, production for the Discovery Channel. McKillop most recently served as a senior EP. Prior to joining Discovery, he ran his own Washington, D.C.-based prodco, Big Rock Productions.

Wendy Eagle has been promoted to senior VP, commercial operations for Discovery Networks, U.S. A 15-year vet of the channel, Eagle was previously VP in the same department.

One of Eagle's first moves was to promote Lori Young to the VP role she had vacated. Young had been divisional director, commercial operations.

U.K. producer/distributor Parthenon Entertainment welcomes Maria Livesey to the newly created position of director of production. Livesey has been a senior production manager at the Discovery Channel, Channel 4 and several indies.

After more than a quarter century at Canadian pubcaster CBC, executive director of network programming Slawko Klymkiw has jumped to the Canadian Film Centre. Klymkiw will serve as executive director of the Toronto-based training center.

Former Discovery Health Channel programming chief Bob Reid is the new evp and gm of the California-based Africa Channel. Before Discovery, Reid produced for Fox News and the news divisions at NBC and CBS.

Anthony Utley, former director of TV distribution at BBC Worldwide, has been named MD for London animation company Cosgrove Hall. Utley makes the jump in October.

London-based distributor 3DD Entertainment has hired Jayne Pitts as director of sales, overseeing the company's worldwide tv and dvd sales divisions. Pitts was formerly director of sales at Boxscreen, a consultancy for producers in the factual and kids genres.

London's FremantleMedia appointed Simon Spalding to the new position of director of operations, Asia Pacific. Spalding was CEO of FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide.
