The dog days of summer might be a-growlin', but things are anything but boring here at RealScreen.
Beyond the fact we celebrate our eighth anniversary this September - quickly followed by the madness of TIFF, Jackson Hole, IFP, the World Congresses and MIPCOM - we've also got some big plans for the magazine.
This November, RealScreen will be very different. We've spent the summer taking stock of everything from content to design, and you'll see the results this fall.
There have been enormous changes in our industry since our launch in '97. It was difficult enough to apply a hard and fast definition to what a 'documentary' was then, but now it's near impossible. The industry has grown organically into so many new areas - factual entertainment, lifestyle, and reality included. Things are much more complicated and less well defined.
But what hasn't changed is the fact that we have to remain relevant to the community we serve.
We plan to concentrate more on the end user - the audience, the theater-goer, the online surfer, the retail customer - and to devote far more space to the people and ideas that are leading the way in our ever-expanding industry.
And, while keeping true to our documentary roots, we also plan to expand our remit to become more inclusive of all influences, perspectives and voices. There's room enough on our pages for everyone working under the greater non-fiction umbrella.
Your input is crucial to this change, so if you have any suggestions or concerns, please get in touch. Our goal has always been to serve you, so let us know how we can do it better.

P.S. - There's also big news on the home front. I'm awaiting the birth of my first child - Kira Maren Christie - in December. The best things in my life have always happened when I've taken an idiot leap into the unknown, here's hoping the trend continues.
